Have I "soft bricked" my LED controller?

    in Tasmota Related

I just bought a LS2812B LED controller with Tasmota. However, when I plug it in to a light strip (I've tried multiple ones), the lights blink, and the controller freezes up. When I unplug the lights, the controller unfreezes.

I had wanted to upgrade tasmota before using it, and the normal "tasmota.bin.gz" file would not upload (not enough space). So I uploaded the "tasmota-minimal.bin.gz"and then the "tasmota.bin.gz".

After researching the problem, I came across an old article at www.athom.tech/support. The current page appears to be blank, so I had to use the Internet Archive:

    web.archive.org
    Download | Tasmota Homekit Firmware
Open sources smart home devices support documents

This article states, "DO NOT use tasmota-minimal.bin!." Well, that would have been good to know before I did this. Also the "Before upgrading set your device to module 18" part. Is there any way to get this to work again? Is there original Athom-Tasmota firmware that can be downloaded?

I am incapable of reading articles online very often, but I’m happy I did today. It is very well written, and your points are well-expressed. I request you warmly, please, don’t ever stop writing. soap2day.to

And…never mind. It appears I plugged the controller into the wrong power supply (it was 12v instead of 5v). I think the led strip I was testing on is fried, but the controller now works fine with other strips (as long as it’s plugged into a 5v supply).
